Apps You Need To Download Before Your Next Trip
Weâre not actually sure how people used to travel before phones because we would be LOST without ours! We have created a list of some of the best apps to download that will take at least 50% of the stress of travelling off your shoulders and make being in a country where you donât speak the language, that little bit easier.
Google Maps
If you only download one app, make it this. Offline maps? Check. Public transport info? Check. Saved places so you donât forget that random place you found on TikTok? Check. Download your maps in advance so youâre not stuck aimlessly wandering when your data decides to not work.
Google Translate
Skip the part where you say the same words in English, hoping that on the 4th attempt they will suddenly understand and download a language translator. Google Translate is probably the most reliableâdownload languages offline, take pictures and have access to most languages.
Skyscanner
Skyscanner lets you compare prices across airlines, track fare drops and even search âEverywhereâ if youâre up for a last-minute adventure. Perfect for when your travel budget is looking a bit tragic.
Get Your Guide
Ever rocked up to a new city and thought, âSo⌠what now?â GetYourGuide allows you to search by location to show all of the activities in that area, where you can then easily book on. There are also reviews so you can make sure you arenât getting scammed or falling for a tourist trap.
Currency Converter
Because doing mental maths in a foreign currency is a skill most of us donât have. XE Currency gives you up-to-date exchange rates so you donât accidentally pay $10 for a 50c bottle of water.
Wise
Wise lets you send, receive and spend money in different currencies with way better exchange rates. Perfect for long-term travellers who need to move money around without the hassle. You can easily move money from your home account to a travel account or if youâve newly moved to a new country, you can move money across to your new bank.
Hostel World
Essentially the marketplace of hostels, Hostel World allows you to search and compare hostels across the world. You can check real reviews to make sure hostels look like their photos and to see if itâs the right vibe for your travels. They also include ratings that allow you to check how clean, accessible and social the hostel is!
Monzo
Travel cards are a lifesaver! There are a few on the market but they are one of our biggest travel tips because there is nothing worse than racking up fees just for using your own money. Monzo is a lifesaver for travellers since it has no foreign transaction charges, real-time spending notifications, and the ability to freeze your card instantly if it goes missing/ stolen.
Air Alo
Circling back to our first point, we donât know how we would travel without phones. And not just our phones, but access to the internet! Air Alo is an E-Sim service which allows you to have access to Data and Calls in over 120 countries. Itâs super easy to set up, works in loads of countries and saves you from relying on finding WI-FI.
Split Wise
Travelling with mates is all fun and games until youâre three countries deep and no one remembers who paid for what. Splitwise sorts out all your shared expensesâwhether itâs hostel stays, rounds of cocktails or that slightly overpriced tuk-tuk ride. Skip the awkward chats and have it all tracked for you!
Life 360
Goes without saying really⌠travelling anywhere in the world has its dangers. Life 360 is a location-sharing app that allows you to add people to your circle and share your location. Itâs slightly different from âFind my friendsâ on Apple as this only shares Apple devices whereas Life 360 can be used by other software systems like Samsung etc.
