Chef Milind Sovani’s tips for pairing food and drinks
When out for luncheons and dinners with family and loved ones, I often noticed the long list of drinks on the menu. The myriad options of drinks used to take most of my time in deciding which drink to pair with my food. Of course, one would say ‘just go with the drink that you like’, but did you know that there is an art behind pairing the right kind of drink (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) with your food? That the flavours of certain dishes can be enhanced or the spiciness of others can be reduced by just having the perfect beverage to go with them? And this thought of pairing your beverage and dish is nothing new, after all everyone does it… it’s just that as food lovers, we think about it all the time!
Sure our choices and tastes differ but the whole idea of pairing it right is exciting lest we lose so much of deliciousness!
