I happened to stay at Casa Baga in April 2016 when my colleagues were searching for a hotel near Baga Beach. They finalised this boutique hotel for our offsite. On the website, the hotel looked pretty luxurious for a price of INR 6000 per night for double occupancy! If you are looking for a boutique hotel near Baga Beach in Goa then Casa Baga Hotel might just be perfect for you. From what it looked and what I experienced, below is why you should or shouldn’t book this hotel when in Goa.
One of the best reasons to stay at this hotel is its location. Baga Beach is just a two minute walk away from Casa Baga where on your right is Bottle Bay Shack and on the left is Andrews and Zanzibar Shack. Also, the famous Tito’s lane is just parallel to the hotel and is a five minute walk!
From outside Casa Baga did not look like a boutique hotel. It seemed like a home stay where there was a small garden at the entrance and a few steps that lead you to the lobby. There are other small common areas where you could read peacefully with plenty of novels placed on the shelf.
I was the first one to reach the hotel so I got to choose the room which had a four poster bed. The room was well decorated with paintings and handicrafts and was painted in bright colours. After I made myself comfortable in the room, I picked up the phone for room service when I realised the phone wasn’t working and every time I tried sitting on my bed it made a squeaky sound! This was not it. I also got electrocuted while bathing and feared that it might happen every time I went in for a shower.
Waking up next morning, I was excited and looked forward to some baked beans, sausages and pancakes at the breakfast buffet but to my disappointment all four days that I stayed in the hotel, the menu only had eggs and poha for breakfast. Luckily for lunch and dinner we could move out of the hotel and binge on the local cuisine. The hotel has a small swimming pool which is open 24/7 for the guests. The drawback being the rooms that are right opposite to the pool. You cannot be too loud disturbing the other guests. One would hope to hit the gym in the morning but sadly the hotel does not have one.
The Swimming Pool
The hotel had more negatives than positives and I don’t think anyone should compromise on comfort especially when on a vacation!
